The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled special voting in the Eastern and Western Regions after uncovering a case involving a compromised ballot paper. The affected exercise, initially set for Monday, December 2, will now take place on Thursday, December 5, to allow for the reprinting and redistribution of the ballots.
At a press briefing on Sunday, December 1, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the decision followed a report from National Security. The report indicated that a single defaced ballot paper, marked for disposal, was found outside the premises of Checkpoint Printing House, the company responsible for printing the ballots for the two regions.
To address the issue, the commission has begun reprinting the affected materials and has assured the public of tighter security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Jean Mensa emphasized the EC’s commitment to upholding the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
The EC has called on all stakeholders, including voters and candidates, to remain calm as steps are taken to rectify the situation.
Special voting, intended for election officials, security personnel, and media representatives, will continue as planned across the country, with the new date applying exclusively to the Eastern and Western Regions.
