The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned members of the party against tribalism and religious intolerance, warning that such attitudes pose a serious threat to the unity and future of the party.
Speaking at the party’s National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Dr. Bawumia stressed the need for cohesion and discipline within the party following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
“Let me say tribalism and religious bigotry from whichever quarters they emanate pose an existential threat and should have no place in the New Patriotic Party,” he advised.
He emphasised that the party’s ability to recover and remain competitive depends on its commitment to unity and a shared vision.
He advised NPP supporters to learn from their past mistakes.
“We must ensure Ghanaians genuinely see the lessons we have learned and are willing to apply the next time round. We shouldn’t be shy about them; it is then that our fellow countrymen and women will give us another opportunity to serve. An army that wants to win a battle must exercise discipline within its ranks,” he stated.
The National Delegates Conference brought together party leaders, delegates, and grassroots members to reflect on the party’s recent challenges and chart a course for the future.
