New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Afriyie, has strongly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun elections in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the former MP insisted that she won the 2024 parliamentary election “fair and square,” citing results from all pink sheets in her possession.
According to her, the collation process was nearly complete before the EC abruptly announced the rerun, a move she described as being in “bad faith.”
“I will never accept this rerun, but I dare them to go ahead with this election—and from A to Z, everybody will clap for me. The constituents love me and voted for me, and that is why I won the election,” she said.
Nana Akua also vowed that the NPP would resist any attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to overturn what she believes is the legitimate will of the people. She accused the EC of setting a dangerous precedent.
“The person who has to come from Tamale to vote—where will he or she get money from? This is not good for democracy. We are setting a bad precedent, because in 2028, someone will cause mayhem, destroy ballot papers, and get away with it because we will consider a rerun,” she fumed.
The EC’s decision to schedule the rerun on July 11, 2025, comes after months of disputes over the authenticity of results from the December 7, 2024, election. The process has been marred by tensions and mutual accusations between Nana Akua and her main rival, Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC.
