The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang has charged members of the Council of State to endeavor to work and help shape government policies and ensure equity and transparency.
She says the country seriously needs a reset adding, that the council members advise the president should always be in the interest of Ghanaians.
Speaking at an orientation programme for the council of state members at Peduase in the Eastern Region, the Vice President said this council should endeavour to dispel the notion held by some persons that the council exist to rubber stamp the president’s policies and decisions.
‘’The reset agenda is not a mere rhetoric but a pressing demand to overhaul the systems that have hindered the country’s advancement and create a governance model that is effective, forward-looking and suited to the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century’,” she said.
She added “Your tenure must redefine the Council’s role and transform it from the perceived passive advisory body into an active institution.’’
Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang also asked that the council’s deliberation be above partisanship.
Chairman of the Council, Edward Doe-Adjaho, urged members to use their prestige to champion collaboration that would satisfy the Ghanaian people, particularly the youth and not the political class.
‘’We must therefore be transparent and collaborative in what we seek to do and appreciate the shades of opinion and the unique insights as well as the perspectives that may come up at the council’s deliberations on presidential referrals and in recommendations to His Excellency the president and institutions of governance’,” he said.
He says their advice and recommendations to the executive must be credible and they should at all times speak truth to power.
