Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, has assured Ghanaians that the controversial electronic transfer levy (E-Levy) will be abolished within the first 120 days of John Mahama’s administration. He made this announcement during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, stating that the government remains committed to fulfilling its campaign promise to scrap the tax before May 7, 2025.
John Mahama, who was sworn in as President on January 7, pledged during his campaign to relieve Ghanaians of what he described as an unnecessary financial burden imposed by the E-Levy. Dr. Forson reinforced this commitment, emphasizing that the incoming government would prioritize reforms to raise revenue without burdening citizens with additional taxes.
